Any vacation that provides me with constant stimulation is my idea of fun (I am not a sit-on-the-beach type of person...I have to be out doing things!).
As a kid, I visited places like Disney World in Florida (May 1982, May 1984, April 1986, May 1988, July 1991), the Bahamas (July 1991), St. Maarten (June 1993) and Bermuda (June 1994) with my parents and brother.
When I was in college, I made my first trip to Europe when I studied abroad in Tübingen, Germany, the summer after my junior year (summer 1996). I made numerous trips back there on my own in the years thereafter to visit friends in Germany and Switzerland in June 1997, August 1998, June 2003 and June 2013.
I studied abroad again in graduate school, living in London during the summer of 2001 and making side trips to continental Europe during that time to France and Germany. I made another trip back to London in March of 2004 and London/Amsterdam in August 2019 with my mom.
In 2007, I was awarded a semester-long sabbatical for the spring 2007 semester when I taught at Pine Manor College and during that time, I traveled around the world as a visiting lecturer on the Semester at Sea voyage. On the 14-week voyage, I taught classes called Intercultural Communication, Cinema & National Identity and Mass Media Systems Around the World as the ship visited the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Malaysia, Vietnam (with a side trip to Cambodia), China, Japan and Hawai'i. During the trip, I got to see Brazil during Carnival, go on a safari in South Africa, visit the Taj Mahal in India, see the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and hike along the Great Wall in China - along with many other great experiences!
During the summer of 2010, I was fortunate to get another "work trip" when I was offered a job by The Experiment in International Living to lead a group of high school students to the United Kingdom for four weeks (July 2010). Specifically, the program I led was called "United Kingdom: Capturing Britain on Film" and I helped students create a mini-documentary as we traveled throughout the United Kingdom. I led this trip again in the summer of 2011.
I had the opportunity to visit study abroad locations in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2015 in my role at Neumann University, and I also led a group of Neumann students to Italy and Vatican City in 2018.
In my current role at the Travel Manager at the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, I am fortunate to also get to travel internationally leading student groups to locations around the world. My trips with the Lauder Institute have been to Switzerland (October 2022, October 2023), Thailand (March 2023), Ghana (March 2024), Mongolia (October 2024) and Botswana (March 2025).
