castaway

On the sandy shore
where I had spent hours
crafting my help sign

Speed boats with
handsome men
came
and loaded up
everyone
(even the people
who were already dead)

99 spaces
but
not one
for me

A ham sandwich
took a place
in the rear,
sat behind the captain
in a box that said
"Break glass if emergency"

I was told a boat would
come back,
later
but then it got dark
and I had already
reused the help
sign
as firewood
